Scripture
The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt, but do as I tell you. Live here as a foreigner in this land, and I will be with you and bless you. I hereby confirm that I will give all these lands to you and your descendants, just as I solemnly promised Abraham, your father. Genesis 26:2-3
Application
We often say that we are all created uniquely in our own way. However, it appears that we don't act that way. Instead, when something happens to a colleague, sibling or neighbor, our natural inclination is that we are next. The truth though is that, you may look like your siblings or friends or colleagues but you are not them. Therefore you cannot share in their misfortune. You have different destinies.
In order to get the future that God has promised you, you need to believe that you are different from others. Not only that, you need to behave that way. When you behave like that, you will become it. If you don't believe and behave like you are different from others, you will suffer the same fate as others.
Looking at our scripture for today, Isaac was in Gerar affected by the famine just like everybody else. So, he was tempted to go down to Egypt just like everybody else to weather the famine. That was what everyone else was doing. Then God told him not to, but to do the opposite. Stay. The promise of God and his destiny requires that he stay in that land, which God already promised him. He did and became wealthier than the entire nation.
This is also applicable for you today. Before you quit like others, remember you have a promise and a guaranteed future from God. Though this concept might be a bit challenging in your current circumstances, I promise you it is the way up and out. What has always helped me is believing and behaving that my case is different and so is yours.
So, don't quit like others.
Prayer Points
- Father, thank you because I have a guaranteed future.
- Father, help me to behave the promise so that I can become it.
