Hostile Work Environment

Hostile Work Environment

Scriptures

But Jacob soon learned that Laban’s sons were grumbling about him. “Jacob has robbed our father of everything!” they said. “He has gained all his wealth at our father’s expense.” And Jacob began to notice a change in Laban’s attitude toward him. Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your father and grandfather and to your relatives there, and I will be with you.” Genesis 31:1‭-‬3 NLT

Application

In these scriptures, we saw Laban and his sons becoming hostile to Jacob who had been a blessing to their family's business. Instead of being cordial or having a good relationship they became adversarial.

What does this mean? It tells you and I that eventually, a covenant person, a set person, someone destined by God for greater things to blaze the trail would need to set out on their own. After the time of testing and training, if a covenant person is too comfortable to leave or not trying hard enough, God would raise up unrest, hostility and inconvenience to push the person into their destiny.

We saw it here. Previously, Laban, Jacob’s employer had cheated him for years. He even reduced his pay ten times! (Genesis 31:7). Yet, Jacob was still there. He was increasing no doubt, but God told him to leave. He was meant to be a nation and not serve under Laban forever no matter how pleasant it is.

Have you evaluated yourself where you are right now? It is possible that God would not deliver you from that hostile work environment where your wages have been reduced. It could be God’s signal for you that it is time for you to move. You cannot pray it away.

I have experienced this before. In a particular year, the Lord told me about getting another source of income. Then He allowed inconvenience and restlessness. They were designed to push me into that greatness that He promised me.

So, evaluate your hostile work environment. Check with God. It might be time to move.

Prayer Points

  1. Thank you Father for opening my eyes to this.
  2. Lord help me to wait until my change comes.
  3. Lord help to leave when it’s my time.
