Scriptures
2 Kings 4:4 Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.”
Application
In this verse, Prophet Elisha was giving instructions to the widow whose late husband's creditors came knocking.
There are so many lessons to learn from this story. Before getting to the focus of today, there are some other lessons that are worth observing. First, God would always require something we have to get us to where we need to be. Even though the widow said she had nothing, Elijah asked what she had, which was a flask of oil. That was more than enough to accomplish God's purpose.
The flask of oil is a seed. What is your seed? Seeds in our hands are never enough to accomplish our purposes. They are too small. But in the hands of God, they are more than enough for the work. Discover your seed. It could be talent, money, skills etc.
Next is our focus, which is "Shut The Door." When we sow our seeds, whether they are talents or skills, money, time or even education or prayers, it should be away from distractions or public view.
Have you noticed that the miracle of conception and growth of a baby stays hidden in the womb of a woman? Also, the germination and growth of plants is hidden in the earth? So also, the time of sowing should not be something we shout from the rooftop. Our Lord Jesus says this regarding prayers. Pray in the secret and your Father who sees you in the secret would reward you openly. So, shut the door. Stay away from the applause, and you’d soon be rewarded openly.
Prayer Points
- Father, thank you for these words.
- Lord, help me to shut out noises that doubt your word in Jesus name.
Note. If this writing has blessed you, would you consider sharing it with a friend, colleague or family? Thank you.
