"...if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light." Matthew 6:22 KJV.
Application
Let me guess. You have many ideas for so many things. You are so gifted. You are hosting a cooking show on YouTube, but you are also pushing your music on Soundcloud. Maybe not.
You just have several Facebook business accounts. One for fitness, the other for veganism and still another for fixing hair. Or perhaps you always jump at every business opportunity that you hear about. Your shelf is full of courses after courses. From real estate to investing in stock options to selling beauty care for quick cash. I can predict your outcome without knowing - failure! Or at best all the ventures growing at a mediocre rate.
Genius Syndrome
Many of us love to pride ourselves by how many things we do or can do. The internet/app age has made this even worse. We download apps after apps. We take in information after information. Many data entry points but no time to process them carefully. We do a little bit. Then another greatest idea since sliced bread comes up and we drop what we are doing and chase that as well.
Now, hear this. It is not wrong to have multiple talents and gifts. You just need to know how to go about them. I will use real life illustrations that should help you fix this as you read.
Seed First
Have you heard about the guy named Jeff Bezos? The richest guy on the planet? Over $200 billion net worth? You would agree that he is a very talented guy. These are some of the sectors he is in. Space (Blue Origin), Media (Washington Post newspaper), Grocery (Whole Foods), Amazon (Online Retailer, Book Seller, Cloud, tech. etc) just to name a few. Very diverse.
Guess what? Bezos started by selling books. Yep. Do you think he had all those ideas in him before he started selling books? You bet. But he wasn't juggling everything together. If he did you won't hear of him today. He worked on only one idea at a time and scaled it.
The bible says we established truth out of two or three witnesses. So, let me throw in one more. Another person is the second richest guy in the world, Elon Musk. He also started out by first building Zip2, a software company then X.com and the famous PayPal. Today his companies are the leaders in the electric automobile industry (Tesla) and private space travel. Yes. He had all these companies in him all along but he didn't try to do all at the same time.
Timing
One of the reasons you want to do one thing at a time is because of timing. The time was not right for Bezos or Musk to go into Space. The regulatory framework and government support was not there. You need to follow the path of least resistance first to give you momentum and build your confidence.
Focus
Keep your focus on one thing and one thing only. Let your "eye be single"- focused on one thing. Then your whole body, the other gifts and talents would later benefit from its rising.
