Why Your Prophecy Didn’t Happen!

Why Your Prophecy Didn’t Happen!

Scripture

This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 1 Tim 1:18.

Application

Previously, until I began to have a different and deeper understanding with the Lord, I assumed prophetic words were self-fulfilling. Nothing needed to be done. Since the Lord said it, it should automatically come to pass. Boy, was I wrong. In fact, expecting that prophecies would automatically come to pass without any input from the person involved would leave the person disappointed.

Just to be clear, there are some pronouncements of God that do happen regardless of the input of the person involved. They are called decrees. For example, there is a standing decree that establishes the throne of David forever regardless of the acts of his future generations. There is also an enduring decree that ensures every Jew in any nation of the world is blessed and above only regardless of their belief in God or not. However, every prophecy in your life should be a prayer point.

Let us examine a situation in the bible that should help us. After the heavens had been shut off for three and a half years, the Lord through Elijah the prophet, prophesied (that's what prophets do) that there was going to be rain. By experience, Elijah knew that word would not happen except he prays. Immediately after he released the word, he bowed between his knees and began to pray seven times. While we were not told the content of his prayers, I believe he was not begging God to do what He said since God already said it. He must have been fighting war against spiritual forces that were fighting the physical manifestation of that word. He never gave up but prayed passionately until it happened.

What could we learn from this? When God gives us prophecies, which also include dreams, visions and other revelations, they will not self-fulfill and may not happen until we fight a good fight to bring them to pass.

Are you wondering why your prophetic word is not happening? How much prayer have you invested in them? Start now and watch them happen.

Prayer Points

  1. Thank you Father for these words.
  2. Father, fill me with the spirit that prays through in Jesus name.
